A Woman’s Place

Gynecology suite offers full range of women’s healthcare

Our practice has grown a great deal over the past few years, and now we have one location where we can do everything that needs to be done,” says Nancy Shumeyko, MD, board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist. “The new, all-female-staffed UHS Gynecology coordinates our services with the Breast Center’s — so now we’re all on the same floor, and we work together when needed. It just makes sense.”

For example, Dr. Shumeyko says, a patient can now schedule her annual gynecology exam and then walk right across the hall for her mammogram. “Or if I feel a lump in the woman’s breast while doing an annual checkup, she can walk around the corner and see a top breast surgeon right then and there,” Dr. Shumeyko adds. “She can have a mammogram, ultrasound, MRI or whatever the surgeon needs to do.”

Conversely, breast specialists can connect across the hallway with Dr. Shumeyko. “Patients with gene mutations for breast cancer begin with a breast surgeon, but these mutations can also entail certain gynecological issues. Now these patients can walk across the hall and discuss the full picture with a gynecologist. This is a very important connection that wasn’t as convenient before.”

A new, larger space also affords the Gynecology practice ample space for state-of-the-art exam rooms, including highly specialized exam tables and equipment for special procedures. Imaging, lab and pharmacy are right downstairs, so women don’t have to take more time out of their busy schedules for another trip to the center to get any tests their gynecologist recommends.
